ighthouse Knitwear, was established in 1992 by London based designers Liz Evans and Stephen Rothholz after buying a lighthouse in County Wexford, south east Ireland. Initially inspired by the local Aran knitters, we soon began designing and producing hand knit accessory collections for Paul Smith and Nicole Farhi.
Our working relationship with Paul Smith has continued to this day and our client list also includes Richard James, Margaret Howell, Browns, Hardy Amies, Crombie, Liberty of London, Jigsaw, Ben Sherman and Whistles as well as several outlets in Japan.
We have expanded the collection to include a range of men’s and women’s garments, again influenced by the traditional cable and aran stitches and patterns of Ireland, as well as a variety of home accessories for Tom Dixon and The Zetter Hotel.
All our items are individually knitted by hand to the highest quality and are therefore unique. Our knitters work at home, mainly in Ireland, though demand has meant we have now recruited some wonderful English knitters as well. Each item bears a tag proudly signed by it’s maker.
We use 100% natural fibres, sourced from the UK wherever possible – Lambswool from Scotland and Soft Merino Donegal Tweed from Ireland as well as finest quality Cashmere from Italy. In addition to our own handknit collections we welcome enquiries for design and production from private label and bespoke customers.
